- Demystifies OSCE, provides updated practical information and practical demonstration surrounding the OSCE process.
- Increases awareness of the complexities of the OSCE process, from a care home perspective.
- Provides information and guidance surrounding the importance of OSCE preparation training, planning & booking, to maximise chances of 1st time OSCE success for IEN’s.
- Provides guidance surrounding the benefits of supportive & structured pre-OSCE induction and RCN/NMC recommended post-OSCE preceptorship support for IEN’s.
- Significant increase in international recruitment within UK in recent years. NMC, 2023 reports that almost half of new NMC registrants 2022-2023 were internationally educated.
- Recent data shows a significant reduction in first time OSCE pass rates, particularly in the social care & independent sectors (NMC, 2023).
What Does It Include?
- Have increased ability to provide targeted learning, development and/or practical support to IEN’s within the care home sector.
- Oversee the process with greater insight into the complexities of the OSCE journey, gained from a variety of sources e.g. IEN lived experience, experienced IEN mentors/instructors who have held various nursing/senior positions in a variety of care home settings.
- Increased knowledge and insight can strengthen existing support systems within care settings for IEN’s, with the aim of increasing general team satisfaction, longer-term retention of valuable colleagues and minimising chance of repeated organisational recruitment costs.
